cruising Louisiana

We are still on I-10 heading for Texas. I said we would get out of this car and walk and we did.
We walked to and from the visitor center and to and from the restaurant he recommended.
I wanted some true cajun food and he recommended Pat's restaurant. We had to drive the 22 mile bridge first. From the outside I was not sure what to think but once inside it was a very nice place. The prices proved it. I had seafood gumbo and catfish and Gary played it safe with shrimp dinner. It was ok. It was our lunch so when we walked away 35 dollars later we decided the food wasn't that good. We sat at a table overlooking the river and watched a man in the boat catch quite a few fish. I had never had gumbo before so that was an experience. I don't think I will have it again.
Temp now is 102  ;)
See you tomorrow.
Something is wrong.  I can't upload pictures. I will try again tomorrow.

On the road

Good Morning
We have been on the road since we left Ida's. On I-10, it goes on forever! Not much to see and the exits are far and few between. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Moss Point. They had a great breakfast buffet. I didn't need that since I had trouble finding something that fit this morning. Thank-you Florida!
We will be making a stop somewhere, not sure where but there will be some walking today. Right now it is 89 degrees out, not too bad.
I don't have any vacation picture to post so I am posting a picture of Ethan and Bailey missing me ;)

On the road to TX

Just left Ida's a while ago and heading towards Tx. Had a great time. They have a area out back where we spent most of our time hanging out. They smoked a ham made sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, corn and rolls, dinner was very good. Thank you!
Gary said that may take about 24 hours to drive. He is not sure just guessing. So we will just take our time and if we see anything of interest we will stop, no hurry. We plan to be in Houston around the weekend, my aunt sent a link to their weekend long festival.

Cookout on the river

Today we are on the road heading to TX but the thought on my mind at this time is my family in Kentucky. I have aunts, uncles and cousins all living there but yesterday we lost one. Gene Earl passed away.
Gene was about 10 years older than me and since I was raised in Mi and him in Ky I really didn't see that much of him. My older brothers spent more time with him, they were closer to the same age. The first though after I heard was remembering the last trip to Ky. We decided to go at the last minute and was welcomed with open arms. All put together a cookout on the river at their house. Everyone showed up, Gene on a motorcycle and cane. We had the best visit and on the way home I commented how nice it was and how glad  I was we went. When I think of him I will always remember the cookout on the river.
Gene you will be missed.

Great Game Ethan

Hey Ethan!
Great Game today. Congratulations on winning!!!!
I am sending you good luck for tomorrow's game. Maybe today's depending on when you read this
;)

Love ya,

Stone Mountain Park Atlanta Ga.

What a day. We drove straight to Stone Mountain. Arrived around 4 and didn't leave until after 10:00. We walked around window shopping ate some ice cream and road the duck. Yes we road the duck blew the duck whistle and acted somewhat crazy. The best part was the laser show. That was wonderful. Gary said that made it all worth while. If you get out this way you should stop by.
We also took the sky ride to the top of the mountain. I haven't been able to look for my connector yet but will in the morning.
We are staying at the Sleep Inn. Not the best place but there is a bed. I expected  better. We joined the choice hotels.com thing where after you stay 3 days you get a $50.00 visa card.
We have 8 different name hotels to chose from so we should be able to cash in.
Not sure where we are heading tomorrow but will be at Gary's parents on Friday.

We are off!

We are now on the road, Finally. We wanted to start early but didn't even get up till 6:30 so we finished packing ate some breakfast. I started my vacation on the back porch watching the train go by.
We pulled out at 8:30 heading for underground Atlanta and Stone Mountain down  I-20.
Enjoying listing to the oldies. We have 4 more  hours until we arrive. I am sure we will stop for lunch so maybe we will arrive somewhere around 3 or so.
I have some pictures but not sure where my cord to connect is. I'm hoping it is not at home! We packed the trunk and back seat full so tonight when we get a room I will have to rearrange.

Time is close.
I haven't even started packing yet! Tomorrow will be a busy day.
Need a heart to heart with Bailey and a to do list for the boys.
Then throw a few things in a bag and I am ready. The only things we are taking to track our trip is the book of 1001 things to see, a small map of the US to put stickies to write notes and a calendar to also put notes. Of course if I think of anything else we can pick it up on the way.

Welcome

Hi
Gary and I have been married for 25 wonderful years. During this time we both worked at the same place and we both have retired from this place. Gary is fully retired where I working part time. About 16 hours a week half from home. Not bad huh?
We retired Feb 27, 2009 after Gary's 43 years of service and my 29 years. We have big plans.
First our oldest son married then we finished remolding our house. Well, we are not completely  finished but enough to move in. I love this house. We tore down the walls and made it a open floor.
Next we will travel across the country. Visiting sights and family. I plan to post daily with our daily stops and photos. The trip should start within the next couple of weeks. First stop Florida to visit Gary's parents and my sister.
Just a little background. We have 4 kids between us 3 boys 1 girl all full grown living on their own. 3 grand children 8 brothers and sisters between us.
I am hoping to hear about things we just can't miss on our way.
