Frankenmuth and Jen's

We managed to make it to Frankenmuth Mi Thursday after the rain stopped. It was late in the day but the stores stayed open.  We hit a clock store where we bought a water fountain for the back porch. We had it shipped because it was too big for the car. Keep and eye out for it Tim.
We ate dinner at Zeinders where there are famous for their chicken. They are pricey but they serve so much food that if you eat there you should split a plate. Gary and I split some chicken roll and it came with; bread, jam, toast, cheese, liverwurst, coleslaw, pickles, cottage cheese, maybe more but I can't remember. But we did not eat it all.
We left there heading for southern Michigan and we ended up in Ann Arbor. We spent the night Friday did our laundry and headed for Jen and Darren's. We went to Plymouth Mi for dinner. What a great town! That place is booming. Don't know why, I don't think it is really a tourist town. We ate dinner at Comparis, great food. Darren's treat, Thanks! Mike(son)meet us for dinner then came back with us to Jen's and Darrens. Visited until midnight and could have gone longer but our eyes were getting heavy.
We did play with the ducks that live in the backyard by the water fountain. Looks like momma and her babies.  Later today we are heading to Gary's sister for a pot luck. His aunts and uncles, mom and dad will be there.
We plan to visit my family before we leave Michigan for New York. We will go through Canada to get there.

Mackinac island and Jennifer

We took the ferry to Mackinac Island Tuesday. Took the inside cabin from St Ignace enjoying the view
from the open window. I am happy we went over. I was raised in Michigan and never visited the place.
It is a fairly large island with lots to do. We started with renting a bicycle built for two and road the coast
line. Mackinac Island does not have any cars so there were lots of bikes on the road. The only
transportation is by horse, bike or foot. We did see an ambulance so in case of an emergency there is
help. After our ride we walked the town .We found a place that rented out horses, which would have been
nice to do but after the bike ride we decided not to. Gary took a picture of UPS delivering with a horse and
buggy. The ferry ride back to St Ignace was rough. The water was choppy. We road on top and decided
it was a fun, maybe a bit scary ride back.
Today we headed south. Jennifer and Darren (daughter and son-in-law) have been at his grandfathers home on the lake and
we decided to see if they were still there. Sure enough they were so we visited for some time.We went to lunch
then back to their place to practice shooting a BB gun. I'm not as good as I thought I was...
We were able to relax on the back porch enjoying the view of the lake.
Tomorrow we plan to head to Frankenmuth Mi, a german town.

St Ignace Mi

Hi,
We have traveled from S.S.Marie to St. Ingace today. Taking our time taking in the sights. We got our room early and went to an early dinner and "window shopping". It is a beautiful day, the weather is perfect and just relaxing. We took our time walking the streets. We then went in to Glen's market and picked up some bananas, cantaloupe, and a bottle of wine. We plan to just hang out today and end it with a glass of wine. We are really enjoying this retired life. Tomorrow we are going to take a ferry to Mackinac Island. Plan to stay the whole day.
Hope all is well at home.

Cheers

Water falls and S.S. Marie Mi

We spent most of the day visiting the lower and upper  Tahquamenon Falls. The upper has 116 steps to the bottom. But that really isn't the bottom. We walked a boardwalk and down more steps. It was well worth the view. We were surprised to see the water was brown is some areas. Reading the information stations told us it is from the area trees. We climbed back up the steps without having to rest and drove to the lower falls. That one had 96 steps. I know to some of you that is just a warm up but it was a total workout for us. Again the view was well worth it.
We left there and drove to Sault Sainte Marie. Found a nice room right across from the locks. We arrived about two hours before a ship was due to come through. We had dinner at a restaurant next door that has been around since ...well a long time. I forgot when they started. On the menu it tells how the owner and cook would walk across the road after breakfast catch fish and cook them for lunch. Before the fence around the locks. So we ate there and walked around town window shopping. I always say window shopping but we went in every store that was opened. At 8:00 the first ship entered the locks, it just fit. We watched as it was raised and  then set back out to sea. Someone yelled out and asked where they were going and what they were hauling, they answered "nothing now we have to go 20 more hours to pick up grain".
The whole thing took about 35 minutes to enter raise up and exit.
The internet is running very slow today so I am not posting pictures. I will try to add them tomorrow.

See ya soon.
